Guide: trim and clean a voice recording

How to Use

1

Open a recording

Drop an audio file into the cutter. Your browser reads it locally and draws a waveform.

2

Select the part to keep

Drag a selection boundary on the waveform, or enter start and end times in seconds. Use Preview selection to listen.

3

Keep the selection

Click Keep selection to trim the recording. Optionally set fades and click Apply settings. Undo restores the previous edit.

4

Export your clip

Choose an output format, click Prepare download, then save the file. Continue in the enhancer if the clip needs cleanup.

Cut a recording without installing an editor

Use this cutter to remove an introduction, save one answer from an interview, or shorten a voice note. The highlighted waveform shows the selected region. Time controls accept decimal seconds for repeatable cuts.

Example: keep an eight-second excerpt

For a recording at least twenty seconds long, enter 12 as the start and 20 as the end. Preview the region, then choose Keep selection. The current edit becomes eight seconds long. Download WAV for further editing, or MP3 for convenient sharing.

Fades and precise boundaries

A short fade can soften a sudden start or finish. Fades apply to the current edit after you click Apply settings. Cutting operates on decoded samples; an MP3 export re-encodes the clip and may include codec padding.

Real-World Examples & Use Cases

Short voice notes

Remove the empty lead-in and keep the message you want to share.

Interview excerpts

Select a quotation by timestamp, listen to the boundaries, and export a separate clip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which audio formats can I use?▼
Open MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A/AAC, OGG/Vorbis, Opus, AIFF, and WebM audio. Additional formats such as WMA and AMR depend on their codec and the available decoder. Export WAV, MP3, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG, or Opus. Protected files are unsupported.
Does selecting a region automatically trim the download?▼
No. Preview selection plays the highlighted region. Click Keep selection to make that region the current edit, then prepare the download. Export always saves the whole current edit.
Can I undo a cut?▼
Yes. Undo and Redo restore recent edits while this tab remains open, within the history memory budget. Restore original returns to the recording opened in this tool.
Is my recording uploaded to a server?▼
No. Decoding, editing, enhancement, and export run on your device. The audio engine downloads on first use, but your recording is not uploaded. Reloading or closing the tab ends your editing session.

Limits and assumptions

  • Up to 100 MB per input, 10 minutes per recording, and 128 MB of decoded mono or stereo samples. Device memory can impose a lower practical limit.
  • Codec support depends on the file contents, not just its extension. Protected, damaged, and unsupported recordings cannot be opened.
  • WAV exports use 16-bit PCM. Editing and compressed exports can change the source samples; converting to FLAC does not recover detail lost in an MP3.
  • Audio stays in this browser tab. Save your download before reloading or closing it. Undo history is limited to eight edits and a memory budget.
