Image Tracing Parameters

Edge Threshold (Brightness)128

Controls which pixel brightness levels trigger an outline edge.

Trace Resolution (Sample Interval)3px

Lower interval generates higher precision but larger file sizes.

Vector Line-Traced Outlines0 segments

How to Use

1

Upload JPG image

Upload a clear, high-contrast JPEG image.

2

Adjust threshold

Set the brightness threshold to separate foreground from background.

3

Download DXF

Download the traced DXF output.

JPG to DXF: Turning Photos and Images into CAD Files

JPEG images can be converted to DXF using automatic image tracing (vectorisation). Because JPEG uses lossy compression, the edges in the resulting DXF may be slightly rougher than those from a PNG source. For optimal results, pre-process your JPEG in an image editor to increase contrast and reduce noise before tracing.

Real-World Examples & Use Cases

Scanned Templates

Scan a physical template with a scanner app, save as JPEG, then convert to DXF for CNC reproduction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is JPG or PNG better for DXF conversion?
PNG is generally better as it is lossless. JPEG compression introduces artefacts that can create irregular trace edges. For best results, use PNG if available.
Can I convert a photo to DXF?
Photographs have complex gradients and are not suitable for direct tracing. Convert them to high-contrast black-and-white images first.
