Toolpath & Machine Settings
Match maximum S to your controller (GRBL $30). 100% power outputs that S value. M4 requires GRBL laser mode ($32=1).
SVG origin is the bottom-left of the viewport. Explicit mm/in dimensions take priority; DPI scales pixel dimensions.
Setup & Zeroing Instructions for 3018 Laser
Enable Laser Mode ($32=1)
Send $32=1 to your GRBL controller via your sender (LaserGRBL, Candle, or UGS) to enable dynamic laser power scaling.
Focus Laser Height
Use the focusing cylinder or focal knob to set the beam spot to its narrowest focal point on your material surface.
Set Origin (G92 X0 Y0)
Jog the laser head to the bottom-left corner of your workpiece and set zero with G92 X0 Y0 or your sender zero button.
Stream G-Code
Upload the converted G-code file and execute. Dynamic M4 mode will automatically reduce power when cornering to prevent burned edges.
Machine Troubleshooting & Calibration: CNC 3018 Pro GRBL Laser Engraver
Why should I use M4 instead of M3 for 3018 laser cutting?
M4 activates GRBL dynamic laser power mode. When the laser slows down around sharp corners or arcs, GRBL automatically scales down laser power proportionally to prevent scorched corners.
What is the maximum feed rate for a 3018 laser?
Most 3018 lead-screw axes can travel comfortably up to 1200–1500 mm/min. Pushing beyond 1800 mm/min on standard 3018 leadscrews can cause motor stalling or step loss.
