Setup & Zeroing Instructions for 3018 CNC

1

Disable Laser Mode ($32=0)

Ensure $32=0 so your GRBL controller enables spindle dwell and proper Z-axis plunge control.

2

Touch Off Workpiece Z-Zero

Use a paper slip or Z-probe to establish the exact top of your material and send G92 Z0.

3

Configure Conservative Step-Down

Because the stock 775 spindle has limited torque, use 0.3mm to 0.5mm depth passes with 300 mm/min feed rate.

4

Start Spindle with Dwell

Our G-code inserts a G4 P2 dwell command after M3 S10000 to allow the spindle to reach full RPM before entering the cut.

Machine Troubleshooting & Calibration: CNC 3018 Desktop Router (Spindle Milling)

How deep can I cut per pass on a standard 3018 router?

We recommend a step-down pass depth of 0.3mm to 0.5mm for softwoods and MDF, and 0.15mm for PCB milling to avoid stalling the stock 775 DC spindle.
