What is the difference between a ratio and a fraction?

The ratio 3:4 does NOT mean 3/4 of a whole — it means the first quantity is 3 and the second is 4 (total is 7). However, ratios can be expressed as fractions: 3:4 means the first quantity is 3/7 and the second is 4/7 of the combined total.
How do I convert a ratio to a percentage?
Add all ratio parts to get the total. Divide each part by the total and multiply by 100. For ratio 2:3:5: total = 10 parts. First part = 2/10 = 20%. Second part = 3/10 = 30%. Third part = 5/10 = 50%. This is used in portfolio allocation (30:40:30 stocks/bonds/cash), recipe percentages (baker's percentages), and business mix reporting.
Can ratios include decimals or fractions?
